What Do You Mean By Patriotism?

The limitless love for own country and deep concern for the welfare of all fellowmen in the nation may be referred to as “Patriotism”. Patriotism is regarded as one of the noble traits since it is combination of several admirable virtues such as solemn assertion of the country’s sovereignty, progressive outlook for multi-faceted development of the nation, constant fervor for the weal and welfare of each and every denizen of the nation, strongest adamancy for uncompromising stance for defence of the country, sincere adherence to ethical principles for equitable distribution of wealth among all the fellowmen to ensure true economic development of the nation, serious commitment to preservation of natural resources and conservation of conventional as well as non-conventional forms of energy for optimum utilisation to public with a special attention on non-wastage of their output and so on.

When we say multi-faceted development of the nation, it encompasses all-round progress in the life of the people. Needless to say, the first and foremost importance is accorded to the basic necessities of life like food, clothing and shelter. Achievement of self-sufficiency in all the requirements of life is the prime pre-requisite for any nation to occupy the place on a launching pad for setting sights on further advancement. In addition to the basic necessities of life, the aim on achieving as well as maintaining the status of developed nations should never be relegated to the back burner. Self-sufficiency also implies rightful possession / ownership on the basic necessities and amenities for each person. Health care and sanitation too demand a perennial attention. Right to education should be the fundamental prerogative for every individual. Educated minds are expected to think properly to move ahead in correct way of prosperity. The human development index is one of the criteria for assessing the standard of development of the country.

However, any country cannot boast of total self-dependence (no matter how developed it is) due to its own limitations of natural resources and specific geographical location on the globe. Inter-dependence is inevitable among all the countries on earth, despite the ideological differences and the nature of internal governance. A nation which is least dependent on other countries is generally perceived to have adequate wherewithal at its disposal for internal developmental projects, upliftment of standard of living, scientific progress, cultural development, refurbishment of civilization, encouragement of creative minds in various fields of science, education, fine arts, literature, music etc.

How Can You Show Your Patriotism?

True patriotism never supports outrageous extension of territorial frontiers at the cost of other nations’ sovereignty. Self-development of a country should make it an ideal nation worth emulating by others. After passing through the initial phase of self-reparation in almost all walks of life, a country reaches the next and final stage of maintenance of the high standards of life and culture endlessly.

Attaining robust levels of economic progress, self-sufficiency, high standards of all aspects of life like health, education, productivity (of goods and services), exports and imports should not cast a pall on its focus on ensuring the sturdy impregnable defence as well as reinforcing supremely talented valiance of military personnel.

World history is wrought with the examples of exceptionally prolonged periods of struggle by innumerable freedom fighters for seeking independence from foreign rule in a serious mission of demanding self-governance, asserting and averment of their own dignity and self-respect and preservation of their culture and heritage. Freedom struggle in many nations witnessed countless sacrifices of life, imprisonment daring the brutal oppression of foreign rule. The very purpose of winning Independence is for levitating the nation with their own hands of the countrymen to the highest levels of progress and prosperity. After gaining independence, maintenance of high standards of living continuously for several centuries and millennia in future reflects the true consistent patriotic spirit and caliber of the nation. The policy of “Live well and Let live” should the golden doctrine for any country in order that its international image should shine resplendently across the globe.
