Sapota fruit is one of the high calorie fruits belonging to the genre of mango, banana and jack fruit. It is rich in antioxidant polyphenolic compound tannin and it is a good source of minerals like iron, potassium, copper and vitamins like niacin, pantothenic acid and folate. Sapota can be used as a medicine for inflammatory diseases. It can also provide many health benefits like prevention of gastric and bowel disorders, strengthening of bones, maintenance of blood pressure, prevention of hair fall, prevention of stomach related disorders and frequent nausea in pregnant women.
What Is Sapota?
Sapota fruit is also known as nose berry, sapodilla plum and chikoo sapote. Sapota appears brownish externally and has a sweet pulp inside. Sapota belongs to the Sapotaceae family. Scientific name of sapota is Manilkara Zapota. Sapota fruit is a berry; it is oval or round in shape. Sapota is 10cm in diameter and weighs 150 approximately.
What Are Types Of Sapotas?
The size of this type of sapota is quite tiny. Its skin is mild brown.
Length of the fruit is 2-2.5 inches.
Sapota is spherical or elliptical in shape. The length of the fruit is 2.5-3.5 inches. Internal pulp has a pinkish color.
Length of Russel fruit is three to five inches. The texture of Russel fruit is granular and it is rich in sweet taste.
Tikal is smaller size compared to the other types of sapotas. Tikal fruit is light brown in color. Tikal fruit tastes great.

Sapota contains 21 mg (2% of RDA-Recommended Dietary Allowance) of Calcium 0.086 mg (9% of RDA) of copper, 0.80 mg (10% of RDA) of Iron, 12 mg (2% of RDA) of Phosphorous, 12mg (3% of RDA) of magnesium, 0.10 mg (1% of RDA) of zinc.
Sapota contains 14.7 mg (24.5% of RDA) of vitamin C, 60IU (2% of RDA) of vitamin A, 0.058 mg (5% of RDA) of Thiamin, 0.020 mg (1.5% of RDA) of Riboflavin, 0.037 mg (3% of RDA) of pyridoxine, 0.252 mg (5% of pantothenic acid and 14 µg (3.5% of RDA) of folates.
