Zirconium Element:
Zirconium is a chemical element and it is a member of group 4 and period 5 in the periodic table. The atomic number of zirconium is 40 and it is indicated by symbol is Zr. Zirconium element is a strong, ductile, malleable, lustrous and grayish- white metal. Five isotopes are occur naturally 90Zr, 91Zr, 92Zr and 94Zr and 94Zr. It has concentration of about 130 mg/kg with in the Earth’s crust and about 0.026 μg/L in sea water.
Uses Of Zirconium Element:
- Zirconium is used in surgical instruments, photographic flashbulbs and in making glass for televisions.
- Zr is used in space and aeronautic industries to manufacture high-temperature parts like combustors, blades and vanes in jet engines.
- It is also used to make superconductive magnets.
- Zirconium catalysts are used in hydrogenation, amination, isomerization and oxidation reactions.
