Tellurium Element:

Tellurium is white-silvery metalloid. It is belongs to the 16th group and 5th period of periodic table. Its atomic number is 52 and represented by the symbol Te.Tellurium is chemically related to selenium and sulfur. It is present in the Earth’s crust only in about 0.001 parts per million. Tellurium is more often found as calaverite, the telluride of gold, and also combined with other metals. Naturally occurring Tellurium contains eight known isotopes, six of those isotopes, 120Te, 122Te, 123Te, 124Te, 125Te and 126Te, are stable.

Uses Of Tellurium Element:

  • Tellurium is used in alloys. To improve the machinability, small amounts of tellurium are added to copper and stainless steel. Tellurium is also added to lead it makes it more resistant to acids and improves its strength and hardness.
  • It has been used to vulcanise rubber, in solar cells, in rewritable CDs and DVDs and as a catalyst in oil refining. In semiconductor applications, it can be doped with silver, gold, copper or tin.
