Tantalum Element:
The chemical element Tantalum is a rare, hard, blue-gray, lustrous transition metal. It is member of d-block, 5th group and 6th period of the periodic table. Its atomic number is 73 and indicated by the symbol Ta. It is named after Tantalos, a Greek mythological character. Tantalum is sometimes, but only rarely, found uncombined in nature. It is obtained naturally from the mineral columbite-tantalite. Natural tantalum has two known isotopes, 180mTa and 181Ta. The more stable isotope is 181Ta.
Uses Of Tantalum Element:
- One of the main uses of Tantalum is in tantalum capacitors in electronic equipment such as mobile phones, DVD players, video game systems and computers.
- The metal is used in dental and surgical instruments and implants, as it causes no immune response in mammals.
- Tantalum is also used to produce a variety of alloys, used for turbine blades, rocket nozzles and nose caps for supersonic aircraft.
- For making camera lenses with high refractive index, tantalum oxide is necessary.
