Tajikistani somoni Currency:
Tajikistani somoni is the official currency of Tajikistan. It is named after the father of the Tajik nation, Ismail Samani. It is subdivided into 100 diram. On October 30, 2000, the somoni was introduced to replace the Tajikistani ruble which had been the currency since 1991, at the rate of 1 somoni = 1000 rubles.
Coins were first issued in 2001, in the denominations of 5, 10, 20, 25, 50 diram composed of brass clad steel and 1, 3, and 5 somoni in nickel clad steel. National Bank of Tajikistan is the centrall bank empowered to issue notes and coins. A second set of coins and notes was issued in June 2012 and included 5, 10, 20, 50 dirams and 1 somoni. On 30th October 2000, Diram banknotes were first introduced, to start the currency off. Present circulating notes are 1, 5, 20, 50 diram, 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 somoni.
