Rhodium is a chemical element and it is a member of group 9 and period 5 in the periodic table. The atomic number of rhodium is 45 and it is indicated by symbol is Rh. Rhodium is a member of the platinum group and it is a noble metal. Rh is a hard, silvery, durable metal that has a high reflectance. It is found in platinum or nickel ores together with the other members of the platinum group metals.  103Rh has only one naturally occurring isotope.

Uses of Rhodium Element:

  • Rhodium is used as catalyst in the chemical industry for making nitric acid, acetic acid and hydrogenation reactions.
  • Rhodium is used in catalytic converters for cars. Rh reduces nitrogen oxides in exhaust gases.
  • It is used to coat optical mirrors, optic fibres and for crucibles, headlight reflectors and thermocouple elements.
  • Rh metal is used in jewellery and for decorations.
