Nitrogen Element:

Nitrogen is a non-metallic chemical element and it is a member of group 15 and period 1 in the periodic table.  Nitrogen  Atomic number is 7 and it is indicated by the symbol is N. The elements in group 15 are called Nitrogen group elements.  Phosphorus, arsenic, bismuth and antimony are the other elements in the nitrogen family. It is a colorless, odorless and tasteless gas. 14N and 15N are the two stable isotopes of nitrogen. N is the fourth most abundant element in the body after oxygen, carbon and hydrogen. The human body contains about 3% nitrogen by mass. 

Nitrogen Element Uses:

  • It is used to make nitric acid, fertilisers, nylon, explosives and dyes.
  • It is also used to fill crisp bags, incandescent bulbs and some tires.
  • It can be used to make electric components like transistors and liquid nitrogen can be used to freeze things.
