Namibian dollar Currency:
Namibian dollar is the official currency of Namibia. After the country gained the independence in 1990 from South Africa, the dollar was introduced in 1993 to replace the South African rand and the rand is still legal tender because the dollar is pegged to the Rand at par. Namibian dollar is subdivided into 100 cents.
On 15 September 1993, The Bank of Namibia issued the first banknotes and issued the first national coins in December. Currently circulating coins are 5, 10, 50 cents, $1, $5, $10.Years of mintage are 1993, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015. The cent coins are made of nickel plated steel and the dollar coins are made of brass. Currently circulating bank notes are in the denominations of $10, $20, $50, $100 and $200.
