Mendelevium

Mendelevium Element:

Mendelevium Element- Mendelevium is a radioactive chemical element of the actinide series of the periodic table. It was the ninth transuranium element (the chemical elements with atomic numbers greater than 92) to be discovered. It was named after father of the periodic table of the chemical elements, Dmitri Mendeleev. Mendelevium does not occur in nature and it is produced by bombarding einsteinium with alpha particles.  Its atomic number is 101 and it is indicated by the symbol Md. It has 16 known isotopes, the most stable being 258Md with a half-life of 51 days.

Uses Of Mendelevium Element:

  • As only small quantities of Mendelevium have ever been produced, it is at present used in scientific research. Mendelevium has no known biological role, because of its radioactivity.
