Calendar

May is the fifth month in Julian and Gregorian calendar and it is the third month to have a span of 31 days. The month of May synchronizes with the season of spring in north hemisphere and autumn in southern hemisphere. The seasons get replaced interchangeably in the month of November in both the hemispheres. The month of May marks the beginning of summer vacation in USA and Canada which ends on Labour Day, the 1st Monday of September. The month May has been named after the Greek Goddess Maia, who was identified with the Roman Goddess of fertility, Bona Dea whose festival was held in May. On the other hand, another version of etymological source was pointed out by the Roman poet Ovid who held that the name May had been derived from the Latin word “maiores” which means elders and the month of May precedes the month of June which has etymological source of the Latin word for young people, denoting the next generation.
