Lao Kip Currency:

Kip is the official currency of the nation “Laos” situated in the heart of the Indochinese peninsula and landlocked by the surrounding countries Myanmar, China, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. The currency is denoted by the code LAK and represented by the symbol ₭ or ₭N.

The currency Kip is further subdivided into one hundred equal parts, 100 att. The power of issuance and regulation of the currency is vested with the central bank of the country known as the Bank of the Lao P.D.R. There are eight frequently used currency notes of the denominations 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000 and 100,000 Kip. The currency notes which have been issued but rarely used are 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 Kip. The coins of the denominations 10, 20 and 50 att.

The governor of the Bank of Laos initiated steps in the year 2012 to release high-denomination currency notes to encourage the native people to use local currency rather than other non-indigenous currencies.
