August 2018 Calendar | All Countries Holidays List | Global Holidays

Between the months of July and September, comes the month of August which has a span of 31 days. August is the eighth month in Julian and Gregorian calendar and it is the fourth month to have 31 days after March, May and July. Aug is the only month to consist of 31 days immediately after July, in quick succession. All the other months recur alternately to have 31 days or 30 days, barring February every year. Prior to addition of January and February in the ancient Julian calendar which had previously only ten months in year, the month of August ranked 6th in seriation. Hence, it had been referred as “Sextilis”, denoting its sixth position. However, after addition of January and February in Julian calendar as in the case of Gregorian calendar, August has come to occupy the 8th serial rank permanently. The month was named in honour of the first Roman Emperor “Augustus” and the founder of the Roman Principate.
