India

India, officially Republic of India, with its geographical term as "Bharat", is geographically located in South Asian continent. Bharat is a democratic country and it is the second largest populous country with over 1.2 billions and it has the seventh largest land area in the world. It is bounded by three big oceans by its three sides viz., Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the southwest, and the Bay of Bengal on the southeast. On north side of India there are Himalayan Mountains which are the biggest in the world. New Delhi is the Capital of India. Other metropolises include Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Ahmadabad. Bharat shares its borders with Pakistan in the north-west, China and Nepal in the north, Bhutan and Bangladesh in the north-east, Myanmar in the east. Sri Lanka, an island nation lies in the south. The rivers of India play an important role in the lives of the Indian people; nine of them are Ganges, Yamuna, Brahmaputra, Mahanadi, Narmada, Godavari, Tapi, Krishna and Kaveri.

Bharat was a slave country earlier till 1947 under the British rule. It got Independence from the British rule on 15th August, 1947, after many years of hard struggles and sacrifices of the great Indian freedom fighters. Some of them were Mahathma Gandhi, Vallabhbhai Patel, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Bhagat Singh, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhas Chandra Bose, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Chandrashekhar Azad and others.The national anthem and national song are “Jana Gana Mana” and “Vande mataram”, respectively.“Hindi” is the national language of India, but 22 official languages are also actively used.

Indian Culture has a rich history of more than 4,500 years.Various religions originated from India including Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism,Jainism, Islam, Christianity and others. In Indian culture spirituality holds a significant place. The country has many gurus; these are the people who have promoted spirituality, meditation, love, peace, brotherhood, serving others in India and the rest of the world. Some of the most famous Indian gurus are Adi Shankaracharya, Swami Vivekananda, Mother Teresa, and Ramakrishna Paramhansa.

India is the second largest producer of wheat and rice. It is world’s largest producer of many fresh fruits, vegetables, milk, spices, jowar, several dry fruits, pulses, coffee, cotton, sugar crane, eggs, fish and others. India is home for education. There are over 620 Universities and 45,000 Colleges of various types in the country. Among those seven IIT’S are top educational institutes in India.

India's national space agency ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization), has carried out 84 spacecraft missions, 59 launch missions. Recently ISRO launched 104 satellites in a single mission to create world record. It became the first nation in the world to have launched over a hundred satellites in one mission. Indian Nobel Prize winners are Rabindranath Tagore, CV Raman, Mother Teresa, Amartya Sen, Kailash Satyarthi, Hargobind Khorana, Subramanian Chandrasekhar, Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Rudyard Kipling, Ronal Ross in different fields.

Bharat is one of the popular tourist destinations in Asia. It is full of attractive historical monuments, religious places, charming beaches, adventure places in various cities which make India famous for travel and tourism all over the world. Taj Mahal, Nalanda Ruins,Tawang Monastery,Group of Monuments at Hampi, Sun Temple, The Iron Pillar,  Ajanta & Ellora Caves are architectural wonders.

Darjeeling, Shillong, Gangtok, Manali, Shimla, Kashmir, Ooty and Panchmari are famous hill stations. India has magnificent sea beaches some of the most famous beaches are Goa, Gokarna, Ganpatipule, Marari, Havelock, Pondicherry, Mahabalipuram, and Vizag.

Hardwar, Ujjain, Shirdi, Varanasi, Akshardham, Puri, Ajmer, Amritsar, Vaishno Devi, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Rameshwaram, Thirupathi etc. are places of religious importance. Manali,Bandhavgarh, Kaziranga, Auli, Rishikesh, Zanskar are some of most adventure tourist destinations.
